Ruben Amorim Responds to Marcus Rashford's Aston Villa Move – "It's Not Embarrassing" for Manchester United
Man United boss Ruben Amorim dismisses claims that loaning Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa is a humiliation, as the forward undergoes a medical ahead of his move.
Ruben Amorim has responded to recent speculation about Marcus Rashford potentially leaving Manchester United for Aston Villa, stating that it would not be “embarrassing” for United if the England forward regains form at his new club.
Despite being dropped from United’s matchday squad for 13 consecutive games, Rashford’s goal tally still exceeds that of the £108.5 million strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who were both left out of the squad for United’s recent 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
Amorim made it clear that if Rashford does make the move to Villa, it would not reflect badly on United, saying: “When you loan a player – and I don’t think it’s official – you expect him to play and improve, so there is nothing humiliating there.”
He further added, “I understand the question but I am just focused on my players, that’s all. When the window closes, I will be really focused on just our team and to improve our team.”
Villa is reportedly set to pay a loan fee, cover most of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary, and also has the option to buy him in the summer. As of today, Rashford is undergoing his medical at Villa, and an official announcement could come soon.
This move comes at a time when United is struggling. Despite recent efforts, the team has failed to score in nine games this season, with their 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace marking their 11th defeat of the campaign. Currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League, United is facing a tough season.
However, Amorim claims that the team has improved, particularly in their performance against Palace. His words, “The performance got better,” “Not a lot, but I think we played better than the other games, even against Southampton, we played better today.”
However, even with the improvement, Amorim acknowledges that the team is frustrated by the continuous losses, particularly at home. “When you continue to lose, especially at home, you have that feeling it’s nothing, the small improvement of the team,” he said. “Let’s go again and see the next game.”
