"People Cannot Say I Don’t Give Everything for This Club" – Diogo Dalot Defends Himself and Backs Ruben Amorim for Success
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has responded strongly to his critics, insisting that while people may not always like his style of play, no one can question his commitment to the club.

The Portuguese full-back has played a big role this season under his fellow countryman Ruben Amorim, sometimes filling in as a left wing-back due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. However, his defensive performances and attacking contributions have been criticized, with some fans questioning his impact on the team.

Despite the backlash, Dalot refuses to let the criticism define him. Speaking to the club’s official website, the 25-year-old made it clear that he always gives his all for the team.

“People might like my football style or not, but they cannot say that I don’t give everything for the club. That I don’t go to the pitch and I don’t feel what this club is about. That is the thing I always try to pass from myself to my teammates and the fans.”

Dalot has been a regular starter this season, playing in all 24 of United’s Premier League games so far. His versatility and work rate have made him an important part of Amorim’s system, but he admits that his performances haven’t been perfect.

Dalot struggled at Old Trafford after joining Manchester United from FC Porto in 2018. Before being loaned to AC Milan in 2020-21, he played in only 35 games throughout his first four seasons due to a lack of consistent playing time.

Since returning to United in 2022, Dalot has fought his way back into the squad and is now one of the team’s most used players. With United recently signing Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, he could now return to his preferred right-back position, where he hopes to continue improving his game.

Despite United’s disappointing season, Dalot remains optimistic about the future under Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils currently sit 13th in the Premier League, far from the title race, but Dalot believes Amorim has the ability to bring silverware back to Old Trafford.

“I think we can win a Premier League with this manager, but at the same time, we need to create an environment where he has everything set for what he wants from the players. We need to also adapt to the system. It will take some time.”

He continued: “Obviously we cannot think too much ahead, but I’m really convinced that the way he conducts himself, the way he communicates with players, the idea that he has… we can do it. Now it becomes the most difficult part, but being really honest and positive about it, I think we can win big trophies with this manager.”
