“One Minute He Looks Amazing”—Thierry Henry Issues Warning About £60m Star as Chelsea Race Ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool

Chelsea are now leading the race to sign Hugo Ekitike this summer — but Arsenal and Liverpool are still watching closely. The 22-year-old striker, who had a stunning season at Eintracht Frankfurt, is one of the hottest names on the transfer market after racking up 34 goal contributions in 48 games across all competitions.

With Arsenal desperate for a reliable goal scorer, Liverpool likely to move on from Darwin Nunez, and Chelsea eyeing more firepower despite already landing Liam Delap, Ekitike has become a top target for all three clubs.

However, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who has worked with Ekitike at youth level for France, has given a mixed review of the talented forward.

“He’s not necessarily a frustrating player, but one minute he looks amazing and the next minute he doesn’t really do the basics very well,” Henry said, according to Micah Richards on The Rest is Football podcast.

“If he gets it right and improves, then his ceiling could be very, very high.”

While Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to sign Ekitike — who’s valued at around £60 million — Henry’s comments do raise some concerns. Micah Richards, who also weighed in, suggested that Ekitike’s style might not suit Liverpool’s current setup.

“He’s more of a stretch striker than someone like Firmino who drops deep and links play,” Richards explained.
“Talent-wise, though, he’s got enough to add to this Liverpool side.”

Arsenal, meanwhile, appear to be making progress on a deal for Benjamin Sesko, who is believed to be Mikel Arteta’s first-choice signing up front. If Sesko does join the Gunners and Liverpool decide to pursue Florian Wirtz — who could be used as a false nine — Chelsea might have a clear path to land Ekitike.

Despite previous doubts around Chelsea’s transfer policy, the club seems determined to back new boss Enzo Maresca by giving him more options in attack. With the Club World Cup approaching, and a deadline of June 10th for signings to be eligible, fans can expect swift moves in the coming days.
