One Manchester United star Is “desperate” to leave United After Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Harsh Comments
Manchester United could see a major squad overhaul this summer, and one player who is reportedly eager to leave is Antony. The Brazilian winger, currently on loan at Real Betis, is said to be desperate for a permanent move after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent harsh comments about some of United’s players.

United’s part-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has been open about his plans to reshape the squad, making it clear that some past signings haven’t lived up to expectations. In a recent interview, he specifically mentioned Antony, along with other signings like Casemiro, André Onana, and Jadon Sancho, as part of the club’s past mistakes.

“If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, Casemiro, Onana, Højlund, and Sancho. These are all things from the past. Whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out,” Ratcliffe stated.

This public criticism seems to have pushed Antony further away from United. His time at Old Trafford has been underwhelming since his €95 million transfer from Ajax in 2022, but he has been showing his true potential at Betis.

Since joining the Spanish club on loan in January, Antony has quickly become a key player. In just 10 games, he has scored four goals and provided four assists, winning over the fans and helping Betis push for European success. His strong performances have reportedly convinced the club to try and sign him permanently.

A new report from The Sun claims that Antony is now “desperate” to stay at Betis rather than return to Manchester, where his future looks uncertain. Betis fans have embraced him, and he appears to be enjoying his football again.

On Thursday night, Antony played an important role in Betis’ 4-0 win over Vitória S.C. in the Europa Conference League, scoring and assisting in the game. Speaking after the match, he shared how much it meant to him and the club.

“Betis hadn’t been in the European quarter-finals for many years,” he said.

“I spoke with Manu (Fajardo, the sporting director), and he told me about this achievement. I was in my room thinking about that. When we wear the Betis jersey, we always have to fight to achieve great things.

“We have a very good team, we have top players, and when you put all this together, that’s what happens. The fans are incredible. Not just today, they’re always with us at home and away.”

While Betis would love to keep him, a permanent deal will depend on their ability to meet United’s asking price. Given Ratcliffe’s comments and United’s expected summer clear-out, Antony could be one of several players offloaded as the club looks to rebuild.
