"He Has Not Got Any Better" – Graeme Souness Says Arsenal's £65m Signing is depreciating in value

Former Liverpool and Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has shared his strong opinion on Kai Havertz’s time at Arsenal, claiming that Mikel Arteta has failed to improve the German midfielder since his move from Chelsea.

Arsenal spent £65 million in the summer of 2023 to bring Havertz to the Emirates, hoping that Arteta could turn him into a more effective player. .

“Havertz has not got any better. He is simply not the answer for them,” he said. The German has had great moments but has struggled with consistency, leaving doubts about whether he was the right signing for Arsenal’s midfield.

Souness also brought up Arsenal’s unsuccessful January transfer window attempt to get a new striker. According to reports, Arsenal was keen to solve their goal-scoring problems by signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.

“The fact that Arsenal were trying to buy Ollie Watkins in the last days of the transfer window shows how badly they wanted a striker,” Souness explained.

Arsenal reportedly made an offer of almost £60 million for Ollie Watkins, but Villa declined to trade him after losing Jhon Duran to Al Nassr. If Arsenal was serious about acquiring a top forward, Souness said they should have taken action earlier in the summer window.

Arsenal is still competing for the Premier League championship, hence missing a new striker might prove expensive. Souness thinks they might regret not acquiring Watkins if they lose the title race once more.

Arteta has already admitted his disappointment with Arsenal’s January business, and if Havertz fails to step up, the Gunners may find themselves struggling in attack at the crucial stage of the season.
