"Embarrassing and Unacceptable": Man Utd Fans Slam Star After Another Defeat
Man United’s midfield struggles continue, with Ugarte at the centre of fans' frustration.
Manchester United suffered another painful defeat on Sunday afternoon, losing 2-0 to West Ham in a game where fans were left frustrated with poor performances across the pitch — especially from midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
United started the match well and looked confident on the ball, but they couldn’t create any real chances. West Ham scored from their first big attack and never looked back. Rasmus Hojlund had two chances to level the score in the second half but couldn’t take them, and West Ham punished United again late on after a terrible mistake from Ugarte.
When West Ham were trying to break forward quickly, Ugarte received the ball and tried to slow things down by holding it up with his back. But instead of keeping control, he fell over and lost the ball in a dangerous area. West Ham took full advantage and scored their second goal to finish the game off.
What made fans even angrier was Ugarte’s reaction. After giving the ball away, he didn’t try to chase back or help defend. Instead, he stayed on the ground and let the play go on. Many supporters called it “terrible” on social media and said it showed a lack of effort.
After the game, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim was asked about Ugarte’s mistake and the fact that he didn’t run back. Amorim refused to single out the player and instead said the whole team was to blame.
“I don’t want to talk about individual players. It’s a team problem, and that makes it my problem as the manager. We’ll work on it,” he said.
But Amorim did admit something that caught attention — he said he felt “embarrassed” by the defeat and the team’s position in the league.
Ugarte has been praised in some games for getting involved in goals — he has six goal contributions in his last nine games — but his overall performances have not been convincing.
In the Europa League semi-finals against Athletic Club, he provided two assists but struggled badly in midfield during both matches. Casemiro, who Ugarte was expected to replace, has looked more solid and dependable.
Stats show that Casemiro has done better than Ugarte in key areas like tackles, interceptions, and positioning. Many fans now believe that Ugarte should not start in the Europa League final.
Ugarte was brought in as a tough-tackling midfielder, but his recent games have shown too many mistakes. He loses the ball under pressure and doesn’t always recover quickly. At a club like Manchester United, that’s a big problem.
With the Europa League final coming up — the only chance for United to save their season — Amorim may have to make a tough decision. Some fans want to see Bruno Fernandes drop into midfield next to Casemiro, with Ugarte left out of the starting lineup.
