Chelsea Open Talks to Sign Dortmund Star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens in £50m Deal Ahead of Club World Cup

Chelsea are pushing to bring Jamie Bynoe-Gittens back to Stamford Bridge, with talks underway with Borussia Dortmund over a potential £50 million deal before the Club World Cup kicks off this summer.

The Blues are moving fast in the transfer market and have made the 20-year-old England U21 winger a top priority, according to reports. Gittens – who once played in Chelsea’s academy – is currently valued at over £50 million and has a release clause in his Dortmund contract around that figure.

He was first linked with Chelsea in January when the club made an enquiry, but now it’s believed they’ve reopened talks and want to wrap up a deal quickly. With the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off on June 14 in the United States, both clubs are keen to resolve the transfer before then.

Gittens has made a name for himself in Germany since joining Dortmund in 2020. He helped them reach the Champions League final last season and became the youngest English player to score in the tournament earlier this season, when he netted against Real Madrid aged just 20 years and 75 days.

The youngster’s rise has caught the eye of England interim boss Lee Carsley, who mentioned him in interviews before Thomas Tuchel stepped in. Gittens has since featured for the U21s, but won’t be part of their Euros squad due to Dortmund’s involvement in the Club World Cup.

Chelsea’s interest in Gittens also comes at a time of uncertainty around Jadon Sancho, another former Dortmund winger who’s currently on loan from Manchester United. As part of their agreement, Chelsea are now obliged to either buy Sancho for £20–£25 million after finishing in the top 14 or pay a £5 million penalty if they decide not to sign him permanently.

The Blues have already made one move in attack this summer by securing a £30 million deal for Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. Now, they’re turning their full attention to securing Gittens, who is viewed as one of the most promising young English attackers in Europe.

Chelsea are expected to face Los Angeles FC, Flamengo, and Espérance de Tunis in Group D of the Club World Cup – and they’re aiming to go into the tournament with new firepower in the squad.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after two tough seasons, opening up more space in the frontline.

With Garnacho also targeted in January, it’s clear Chelsea are working on securing young, exciting wingers to fit new boss Enzo Maresca’s style, and Gittens may just be the ideal piece to add to the club’s ambitious rebuild.
