"Bruno Is Very Important for Manchester United"—Ruben Amorim Speaks Out Amid Transfer Rumours

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made it very clear that he wants captain Bruno Fernandes to stay at the club as they begin rebuilding for the future.

Fernandes caused a stir last week after the team’s painful loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final. The Portuguese star hinted that he might leave the club, saying United could “cash in” on him, especially with interest coming from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.

Although Fernandes signed a new contract last August, it only added one more year to his current deal, keeping him at United until 2027. The club also has the option to extend that by another year.

The 30-year-old finished the 2024–25 season as United’s top scorer with 19 goals. He has also been voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year four times in his six seasons at the club — a sign of how important he is to the team and the fans.

Despite reports that United would consider selling any player this summer, Amorim is standing firm. He said again that Fernandes is a key figure at the club.

“We’ve talked about it many times,” said Amorim. “Just look at how he plays, how he leads, and how passionate he is. Especially during the tough times — that’s when Bruno shows his true value.”

Amorim went on to explain how Fernandes plays a huge role when the team is under pressure. He doesn’t shy away but steps up — just as a captain should.

“The last match had no pressure, and everyone looked confident. But during the tough games, Bruno is the one who takes responsibility,” Amorim added. “That’s what we expect from our captain. He’s experienced, and he’s important to what we’re trying to build here.”

United are currently in Malaysia for their post-season tour. They will face the ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday night. Amorim has brought along some of the club’s young talents who haven’t played a competitive match yet. These include Dan Armer, Jaydan Kamason, Reece Munro, Jim Thwaites, Jack Moorhouse, and Shea Lacey.

The youngsters are expected to get game time during the tour, which also includes a match in Hong Kong on Friday.

Amorim explained that they’ve been working with these players for the past six months in training and now is a good chance to see them in action.

“We’ve seen them in training and know what they can do. These games are a great opportunity to test them in different positions and see how they handle match situations,” he said.

From what Ruben Amorim has said, it’s clear he believes Fernandes is too important to let go. But in football, things can change quickly — especially with big offers on the table.
