Arsenal Plot Ambitious Move for Rodrygo as Arteta Eyes Attacking Reinforcements
Gunners eye Real Madrid star Rodrygo in ambitious summer overhaul, with Nico Williams and Leroy Sane also on the radar as Arteta looks to ease the pressure on Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal are stepping up their interest in Real Madrid star Rodrygo as they look to add more attacking power to their squad ahead of a crucial summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Gunners are keen to strengthen their left wing, and Rodrygo is said to be one of the top names on their shortlist. New sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the club’s recruitment efforts alongside manager Mikel Arteta, with both men working hard to find the right players to help push Arsenal one step further in the title race.
Rodrygo, 24, is expected to hold talks with incoming Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso this week. Despite having three years left on his contract, there are growing questions about his future at the Spanish giants, especially with more competition for places expected at the Bernabéu next season.
Arsenal aren’t only looking at Rodrygo. They’ve also been tracking Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane, and Aston Villa’s rising star Morgan Rogers as they aim to bring in a proven wide attacker.
Williams in particular remains a long-term target for the Gunners. The Spanish international has a reported £50 million release clause, and Arsenal had already shown interest earlier this year. Bilbao are desperate to keep hold of the winger and have already opened talks over a new deal, with club president Jon Uriarte stressing Williams’ importance to their future plans.
The push for a marquee winger comes at a time when Arsenal’s lack of investment in attacking players is becoming more noticeable. Despite being a top Premier League contender, Transfermarkt reports that 59 clubs have spent more on forwards than Arsenal since 2020. Excluding Kai Havertz — who was signed for €75 million but has played mostly as a midfielder — the Gunners have spent just €80 million on wingers and strikers in the past four years.
That statistic is even more striking when you consider Arsenal have built one of the best defences in the league. But to truly compete for the title, they need more firepower up front. Bukayo Saka has carried much of the creative load, and the club knows it’s time to ease that burden with world-class support.
Mikel Arteta is expected to push hard for attacking reinforcements this summer. With the club hungry to end their long wait for a Premier League title, Arsenal are preparing to spend big — and Rodrygo could be the star signing that sets the tone.
