“It’s Not a Compliment” – Keane Slams Maresca’s Comments About Man Utd

Roy Keane has delivered a brutal reality check to Manchester United, warning the club not to fall for the “mock praise” given by Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca after their 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Following United’s disappointing performance— where they managed just one shot on target — Maresca praised them for playing well, pressing Chelsea, and being dangerous. But Keane wasn’t buying it.

“Even the Chelsea manager is patronising them by saying ‘they played well, they pressed us, they were dangerous.’ They beat them 1-0 and United had one shot on target,” Keane said on Sky Sports.

The former United captain was fuming at how low standards have dropped at his old club — to the point where even rival managers are offering praise that, in Keane’s eyes, is nothing more than a subtle dig.

“What they’re doing is patting them on the head, going ‘off you go back up to Manchester.’ That’s what Manchester United used to do to teams years ago,” he added.

Keane’s message was crystal clear: United shouldn’t accept being talked down to with fake compliments. They should be angry. They should respond.

Chelsea dominated the match with 64% possession and 16 shots to United’s meagre attacking effort. Maresca’s words, instead of being a sign of respect, were — according to Keane — a hidden jab. A reminder that United are no longer the force they once were.

“This isn’t praise — it’s mockery in disguise,” Keane warned. “United need to wake up, buckle up, and stop accepting mediocrity.”
