“He’s the Full Package” – Kyle Walker Says Reece James Is a Mix of England’s Best Right-Backs
Manchester City star Kyle Walker has given huge praisse to Chelsea captain Reece James, saying he’s the most balanced right-back in the England squad — and possibly the most complete in the country.

Speaking on The Kyle Walker Podcast, the England veteran said that if you could combine the best qualities of himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier, you’d get Reece James.

“If you were to mix me, Trent and Tripps together, you’d get Reece James,” Walker said. “His delivery from set-plays and crossing is inncredible. Defending and attacking, he’s very, very balanced.”

This is strong praise coming from a player like Walker, who has won several Premier League titles and played at the top level for many years. His comments show just how much respect Reece James has earned from his teammates, even with his recent injury problems.

At 24 years old, James has had a tough time staying fit, missing a lot of games this season. So far in the 2024/25 campaign, he has played just 10 Premier League matches for Chelsea. But when he’s on the pitch, he shows just how good he really is.

James is known for his strength, speed, and skill. He can go forward and create chances with dangerous crosses, but he’s also solid in defence. Even in his limited games this season, he has created more chances per 90 minutes (1.8) than any other Chelsea defender. His crossing accuracy (28%) is one of the highest among Premier League full-backs.

Walker’s praise shows how much James brings to the team. Trent Alexander-Arnold is famous for his passing and attacking play. Kieran Trippier is reliable and great with set-pieces. Walker himself is known for his speed and strong defending. Reece James, according to Walker, has a bit of all three.

“We’re all different,” Walker added. “But when you watch Reece, you can see parts of all of us in the way he plays.”

With the Euros coming soon, England manager Gareth Southgate will have a big decision to make when it comes to choosing his starting right-back. But if James can stay fit, Walker clearly believes he’s the full package — strong in defence, dangerous going forward, and smart on the ball.

Reece James might not have played as much as fans would like this season, but in the eyes of one of the best in the game, he’s already shown he has everything it takes to be England’s number one.
