Manchester United are just one step away from lifting the Europa League trophy, and both club legend Paul Scholes and young star Leny Yoro believe the team’s rich history gives them the upper hand against Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
After a dominant 7-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals, Ruben Amorim’s team is full of confidence. A 4-1 victory at Old Trafford in the second leg saw standout performances from Mason Mount — who scored twice — along with goals from Rasmus Højlund and Casemiro.
But one player who quietly impressed across both legs was 19-year-old defender Leny Yoro. Signed from Lille last summer for £52 million, Yoro missed the start of the season due to injury. Since returning, however, he’s quickly become an important part of Amorim’s squad.
Speaking after the match to The United Stand, Yoro spoke about the excitement of reaching the final — and how United’s history inspires belief.
“Of course, when you’re playing for Manchester United, you need to believe,” Yoro said. “This is a club of trophies. They win a lot, and I think in the final, it will help us to remember that we’re Manchester United — and we need to win.”
Yoro also said he tries to stay calm and not let pressure affect his performance. “You have to be 100 percent focused,” he explained. “If you feel too much pressure, you can’t play your best. So I try not to feel pressure at all.”
His words were echoed by former United midfielder Paul Scholes, who shared his thoughts on TNT Sports after the match. When asked about the final between two teams currently struggling in the Premier League — sitting 15th and 16th — Scholes made it clear who he thought had the advantage.
“They both need it, they both want to win,” Scholes said. “But Manchester United’s history tells me they will win it. They know how to win trophies. Tottenham don’t. It’s that experience, the size of the club, and the history that will help them come out on top.”
With both Yoro and Scholes in agreement, the focus now shifts to the big day. Will United’s legacy carry them to another European title — or can Spurs finally end their long wait for silverware?
