"To Be Honest"—Bruno Fernandes Dismisses Claims of Special 'Treatment' from Rúben Amorim at Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has dismissed recent reports suggesting that he has a special connection with new manager Rúben Amorim. While acknowledging a good working relationship, Fernandes made it clear that they are not as close as some have claimed.

Rúben Amorim’s time as Manchester United manager has been full of ups and downs. While he has led the team to impressive wins against Arsenal and Manchester City, United’s performances have been inconsistent.

When he took over, the club was struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, and despite some improvements, they have yet to climb significantly higher in the table. To make matters worse, United have already been knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

However, one positive for Amorim is that Manchester United remain unbeaten in both the Europa League and Champions League, giving fans hope that they could win the Europa League to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League. This is especially important as the club faces financial difficulties, and Champions League qualification would provide a much-needed boost.

With pressure mounting on Amorim to turn United’s season around, a report from the Manchester Evening News claimed that he has been relying more on his Portuguese players, particularly Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, to communicate with the team.

However, speaking to CBS, Fernandes dismissed these claims.

“I wouldn’t say we are ‘quite close.’ We don’t speak that much, to be honest. He’s a manager that is very, very quiet. He likes to joke around a little, but he does it with everyone.”

Fernandes explained that while, as captain, he often receives instructions from Amorim, he is not the only player involved in communication.

“Obviously, being the captain, many times messages from the manager come to me, but a lot of times they come from his staff or the team manager instead. We have a good relationship, but it’s not different from any other player.”

Bruno Fernandes also shared a story about the first time he met Amorim. Before joining Manchester United, he played for Sporting CP, the same Portuguese club Amorim managed before moving to Old Trafford.

Despite their shared connection with Sporting, Fernandes revealed that they had only briefly met before Amorim’s appointment at United.

“I knew about him because I watched Sporting play in Portugal, but we didn’t know each other personally. I met him once when I visited Sporting for a game. We just said hello and goodbye.”

Fernandes praised Amorim’s work at Sporting, acknowledging that fans and players at the club had been very happy with him. Now, he hopes that Manchester United can recreate that success under their new manager.

“We all saw how united the team and staff were in Amorim’s last game at Sporting. We want to bring that same togetherness and, most importantly, start winning trophies again.”

As Manchester United continue to battle for a Champions League spot, Amorim faces a tough challenge. His team has been inconsistent, but their strong performances in Europe offer hope for a successful end to the season.
