Bruno Fernandes Urges Manchester United to Sign who would be perfect for Man Utd

Manchester United are on the hunt for a new striker, and this summer’s transfer window is already shaping up to be a busy one for Rúben Amorim and his recruitment team. After bringing in Matheus Cunha and nearly signing Bryan Mbeumo, the Red Devils have strengthened their attack, with the two players combining for 35 Premier League goals last season. But with United scoring only 44 goals across 38 games last season—a tally worse than Everton, Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton—the club knows more firepower is urgently needed.

Rasmus Hojlund’s tough second season at Old Trafford has raised questions about his future. The Danish striker reportedly has an agreement in place to join Inter Milan, pending a deal between the clubs. Meanwhile, United missed out on their top target Liam Delap, who chose Chelsea, attracted by their return to the Champions League. Arsenal are also making moves in the striker market, closing in on Slovenian forward Benjamin Sesko.

With Delap and Sesko heading elsewhere, United’s striker search is narrowing—and Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as a key name. The Sporting CP striker is set to leave the Portuguese side this summer, and despite Arsenal and Chelsea looking elsewhere, United could be his only Premier League option, even without European football next season. The sticking point? Sporting want around £58 million, a hefty price tag for the Red Devils.

Amid these developments, a new option has surfaced. After Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League success, Goncalo Ramos was reportedly offered to Manchester United by intermediaries. The 23-year-old Portugal international burst onto the scene at the 2022 World Cup with a stunning hat-trick against Switzerland. However, since joining PSG two years ago, he has struggled to cement a regular place under manager Luis Enrique.

United showed interest in Ramos last summer before eventually signing Hojlund. At that time, Bruno Fernandes was vocal about how highly he rated Ramos, describing him as an ideal fit for the Premier League. Fernandes praised Ramos for his intensity, pressing, and physical strength—qualities that fit perfectly with Amorim’s tactical demands for a hard-working number nine.

Speaking in June 2023, Fernandes said:
“I think he has all the qualities to play in the Premier League, and when I say Premier League I also mean Manchester United. I think he could become a great reference in the coming years, but it’s still not in my hands to be sports director.”

He added:
“Goncalo has all the conditions to play in the Premier League. He is very intense, presses very well and is very good inside the area. He surprised me in the national team, not only me but the rest of my teammates. He’s physically strong, he’s still young and he’s going to get better.”

Fernandes concluded by saying Ramos has the potential to become “one of the best strikers in the world,” but he needs to prove himself in a more competitive league.

Fernandes’ praise for Ramos is notable given his previous spot-on assessments of young Portuguese stars. Joao Neves, who shone for Benfica last season, also caught Fernandes’ eye. Although United were interested in Neves, PSG secured the midfielder’s signature. Now a Champions League winner and key player for one of Europe’s strongest midfields, Neves has justified Fernandes’ belief in his potential.

Fernandes said of Neves:
“I don’t know if United rumours are true, but I know he is ready for that big jump. He is an excellent player, he’s with the National team. That’s also why the big clubs are after him.”

With United’s options limited by price and competition, Ramos presents a tantalising prospect. His blend of youth, potential, and proven qualities in international football could make him a smart signing to lead the line at Old Trafford. However, time is running out, and United will have to move quickly if they want to land a striker who can deliver the goals their team desperately needs.
