“He Looks Like a Lost Boy”—Man Utd Legend Tells Mason Mount to Leave Old Trafford to Save His Career

Mason Mount has been urged to walk away from Manchester United if he wants to get his career back on track — with club legend Paul Parker branding him a “lost boy” at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old midfielder has struggled badly since his £55 million switch from Chelsea in 2023. Once a key man for both club and country, Mount’s career has taken a sharp downturn after injuries and inconsistent form derailed his progress at United.

He has managed just 13 Premier League starts across two seasons, and has been left out of the England setup since starring at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Despite finally returning to the Red Devils’ starting line-up towards the end of the last campaign, Parker believes Mount’s time at the club should come to an end.

“I’ve said it before, but I just can’t ever see him having a key role at Manchester United,” Parker told AceOdds.com. “He has no standout qualities and now we’re really seeing why Chelsea were happy to let him go.”

Mount, who was seen as a major coup when he joined United, has yet to show the qualities that made him one of England’s most exciting midfielders during his time at Stamford Bridge. For Parker, the problem runs deeper than just form or fitness.

“He’s clearly one of those players who would benefit from finding a new club,” Parker said. “I think he needs to figure out who he is as a footballer. What is his identity? He has no identity. Nobody knows what he’s actually good at — and I don’t even think he knows himself.”

“He looks like a lost boy out there,” Parker added. “So first and foremost, he needs to find his identity. Otherwise, he won’t succeed at a new club either.”

While Parker believes Mount’s time at United may be up, he has tipped Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo to be a game-changer at Old Trafford.

United have reportedly submitted a £55 million bid for the Cameroon international, who impressed many during a standout season with the Bees — particularly after Ivan Toney’s departure.

“Mbeumo has been absolutely unbelievable,” said Parker. “He’s only improved since Ivan Toney left. What he’s done for Brentford is incredible.”

Parker also gave high praise to Brentford boss Thomas Frank, calling him “one of the best managers in the world” for getting the most out of his players.

“Mbeumo would be a brilliant signing for United. A magical signing, because he would be a massive step up from the other players. He would be a dream signing.”

However, Parker raised doubts about whether Mbeumo would actually want to leave Brentford.

“It’s a fantastic club, and if you take away things like money and status, Brentford might just be the best club to play for in the world.”
