REVEALED: The Major Reason Chelsea's Deal With Jadon Sancho Fell Off

Chelsea have decided to send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United after just one season at Stamford Bridge, despite the winger ending the campaign with an eye-catching goal in the Conference League final.

Sancho joined the Blues on loan from Manchester United last summer in what looked like a smart deadline day deal. The loan came with an obligation to buy—unless Chelsea chose to back out by paying a small fee to return the winger.

According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea were open to keeping Sancho permanently and even set a deadline for the 24-year-old to agree personal terms. However, the move collapsed when the two parties failed to reach an agreement on wages. The Blues were reportedly not willing to match the salary Sancho currently earns at United.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, writing:

Sancho’s final moment in a Chelsea shirt may have been his best—a brilliant curling goal in the closing stages of the Conference League final against Real Betis. But it wasn’t enough to justify the financial package needed to keep him in West London.

Sancho, who joined United for £73 million in 2021, had a rocky spell at Old Trafford before the loan move. A falling-out with manager Erik ten Hag left him sidelined from the first team, opening the door for his temporary Chelsea switch.

With his future once again uncertain, the England international is expected to seek a new club this summer. Manchester United are not planning to reintegrate him into the squad, and sources say they are still determined to sell.
