Chelsea Make Move for AC Milan Star Mike Maignan as Goalkeeper Search Intensifies
Chelsea have stepped up their bid to sign a new top-class goalkeeper this summer — and French star Mike Maignan is now right at the top of their wishlist.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have officially contacted AC Milan to explore the possibility of signing the highly-rated Maignan. With manager Enzo Maresca looking to rebuild key areas of the squad, bringing in a new number one is said to be one of his top priorities.

Maignan, 29, has two years left on his contract with Milan, which runs until June 2026. Talks over a new deal have reportedly stalled, and that’s given Chelsea hope they could strike a deal before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Blues have made it clear they’re serious. Romano reports that they’ve already reached out to Milan, showing strong interest in bringing the French international to Stamford Bridge. And with Maignan not yet tied down to a new deal, Milan could be forced to make a decision — extend his contract or sell him now while his value remains high.

Maignan has built a big reputation since joining Milan from Lille in 2021. He played a huge role in their Serie A title-winning campaign in 2021–22 and has since impressed in both the Italian league and European competitions.

Known for his shot-stopping ability, leadership, and sharp distribution, he’s considered one of the best in the game. Even Liverpool’s Alisson Becker has praised him, calling him “one of the best in the world.”

Chelsea’s current options in goal haven’t quite lived up to expectations. Robert Sanchez had an inconsistent season, while young Filip Jorgensen still lacks experience at the top level. The club are determined to fix this issue as they look to bounce back stronger next season under new boss Maresca.

The final call will come down to AC Milan. If they can’t agree new terms with Maignan, they may be tempted to cash in. Chelsea are watching closely and ready to act quickly if the door opens.
